It depends on the budget and what kind of functions you want on it.
I chosed for a Olympus Stylus 1 (550 euro) for more zoom and still a bright lens and the battery that can last an entire show. No more using 3 batteries in 2 hours.
There are cameras with better lenses, but they are too big for in the venues. This one have a nice compromise between zoom, bright lens, battery, size,... and one security guy made a remark about my camera, but it wasn't really forbidden in London O2 Arena. They were busy with the big lens guy. Newcastle didn't care about my camera.
Nikon Coolpix P7800 (500 euro) and it's predecessors are known for their slowness. Less bright lens and a little bit more zoom than Canon PowerShot G16 (450 euro). Canon compacts are known for hiding settings in menus instead putting more buttons on the camera.
