Hi! Sorry it took me so long to report on the ride, but life got in the way! Anyway, here is a brief summary on what we did.
A group of 4 riders (including myself) set out on a 32 mile journey around Santa Barbara and Goleta tracing the footsteps of where Katy made her mark on her way to stardom. Starting at Chase Palm Park (Adidas commercial & KP3D were filmed), we rode to Playback Studios (TD and LFN were recorded), Wildcat Lounge (LFN was inspired), Carrillo Recreation Centre (TD video was filmed), Santa Barbara Bowl (Self Inflicted was inspired), Katy's Mountain Ave. neighborhood (wrote her first song there), Santa Barbara Christian School (Katy's elementary school), Goleta Valley Hospital (Katy was born), Goleta Beach Park (TD video was filmed) Dos Pueblos High School (Katy's high school), and In-N-Out Burger (Katy's favorite burger joint) before heading back to downtown Santa Barbara.
We all had a great time and took great interest in visiting the places where Katy left her mark. Unfortunately, 2 riders had to drop out after Katy's old neighborhood as the route was too long for them and they had to be somewhere else. Also, I had up to 8 confirmations to ride, but 4 dropped out at the last minute.
In organizing this ride, I came under the impression that a Katy themed bicycle ride did not hold much interest among local Santa Barbarians, as many are familiar with her story and pretty much take her for granted. However, I felt such a ride will be popular among Katycats from outside of Santa Barbara who are more interested in living her story. Therefore, I am looking to have the route and a summarized narrative of the tour posted on the net so visiting Katycats can give themselves a self-guided tour. I may also split the tour into 2 parts: one covering in-town sites up to and including the SB Christian School, and the other half covering sites in Goleta. I will also be looking for a host site to post some photos of the ride. Any suggestions are welcome.
One thing about Santa Barbara, it's a great bicycling town! Can't wait to go back there again and perhaps do another Katy tour! If I do, I'll let you know.
One more thing: a BIG thank you to Steve and Tara who helped me put all of this together!
