Part of Me completely changed my view

Part of Me completely changed my view on Katy. Before I watched the movie, I already knew she grew up in a very Christian household and had previous record deals fail. But the movie drastically changed my view.

Going to be 100% upfront: Before the movie, if you said Katy Perry, I'd respond "Oh she's a pop singer with a great voice and big boobs. I like some of her songs." After the movie, I have literally almost got in a fight with someone who insulted her and said "she just has nice boobs". My view on her after the movie is "Great singer, Great song writer, really nice person, +++++++respect." No joke, I would fight someone if they legitimately insulted Katy in front of me, a feat only KISS has reached for me. Not even the Cowboys, and I'm a huge Cowboys fan 


I guess I never quite realized how tough it is while on tour, scratch that, I never realized how tough Katy had it on tour. I already know how tough touring can be (KISS Army hardcore since 2009). I know all great artists are able to mask that on stage and put the show forward, and seeing Katy break down like that in the movie, and keep pushing touched my heart. 95% of my music listening since I watched that movie about a week ago or something like that, has been Katy Perry. Some of her songs, now that I know her backstory, can sometimes make me sad.

Part of Me is arguably one of the best behind the scenes movies I've ever seen. When I saw that her makeup artist, and stylist and what have you were all the same ones that she had when she was still fighting to make it big, gained a lot of respect from me. Not many artists are able to remember where they came from. ( I feel like I do this a lot but) That's what KISS is a lot about. Remembering where you came from. Now, KISS and Katy go about it in two different ways kinda sorta. But really they aren't that different in the way they go about it. A huge highlight of every KISS show is this:

To see that Katy brings fans onstage during the show put a smile on my face.


Back to the movie though; Seeing how much of a great person, and dedicated wife she was (still sad for on on that one ) made me love her as a person and musician.

Got the DVD and watched it yesterday (French version, probably not the version everyone got to see in the cinemas, that's how it works).
I knew 99% of what i've seen in the movie, but SEEING it right "in front of you" is different than assuming or knowing it. I can only imagine what a slap in the face it can be if one thought she is nothing more than a poptart before seeing the movie.
I certainly don't feel like convincing all my friends to watch it (no time), but i'm sure they'd shut up for a while if they did. You don't have to like her, everyone is entitled to an opinion, but people saying she's an overnight-success-pretty-big-boobed-puppet is what annoys me the most among the negative comments she gets, because she's pretty much the puppet-master in her success story, and that's a well deserved fate.

OP... and I am bawling. Your words were a wonderful, heart warming read. Thank you. Katy is something truly unique and special. I LIVE for reading stories like yours...

I have become a huge fan. Huge!!! But I see the other side, to a degree... cuz years ago... I called her whiny!!!!!!! Not a big thing, haha, but still... I can see how the quick glance and judgement is what it is. But I clearly  know that anyone that sincerely takes 10 minutes to genuinly get to know her better... (or 90 minutes to watch her movie, haha)... not many could walk away with the EXACT same mindset.

I love Katy. So much.

And her fans... I love them so much too.

I've seriously got really frustrated with people and almost got into arguments over Katy. But then I take a step back and quite literally thought to myself "Fuck them. Let them hate." I seriously can't wait to start saving towards my goal of going to meet Katy on her next tour, and making custom shirts for it. I've made quite a few changes not only in my interests towards Katy, but in my personal life because of Katy. I've moved on from things holding me back in life and it feels great. For me, KISS and Katy are the perfect combo.

I totally agree with you, I bacame a Katycat after seeing the movie it was mind-blowing form me. It changed all my point of views, now I'm in love with this woman, as a musician, but mostly as a person <3

Well, I know that, but it doesn't guarantee that I'll win and be able to go. I should get at least $300 a month, so in 2 months I'll have enough saved up for the ticket. Worst case lets say I only make $200, that's only 3 months for it.

aww This is so sweet, i feel the same way..
I watch the movie over and over, and cry every time, It really ISNT like everyone elses movie, You really get to see what life for Katy was like... How hard it was for her, and how much she put up with, how much she did for the fans... But the part I cry at EVERY single time, is when she is crying and they ask her if she wants to go on, and she says yes, And she is literally crying 30 seconds before she starts singing.. You really just get to learn what it was like for her.... Because behind all that glitter and candy is a real girl, who has real life problems, And does get upset, Just. like. everyone. else.

I know this has happened to quite a few of people I know, my best friend included, she HATED Katy and I convinced her to watch the movie and now she cant get enough, I honestly believe if most 'haters' watched POM they would change their opinion!

when i went & saw it with my friends, they were all crying & they have so much more respect for her, as do my mum & dad after i made them watch it first thing on Christmas Day, i love how the movie has changed so many peoples' opinions

Just got done watching it again. Everytime I finish watching it I always feel so inspired and high on life, like I can do and can be anything and everything. Gonna make it my goal to watch it AT LEAST once a month if not every 2 weeks.
