I mean, considering that it was her first performance, then yeah i guess it was perfect!! But I feel like she was super nervous during Rise because yes, it was her first performance, but it was also quite a major event. During the soundcheck she was generally facing the back, so maybe that affected her? It's totally normal for people to feel jitters though! I still loved the performance anyway, because that means it'll only get better from here!
Yes, it's Katy's singing style and she was great. She was full of energy and sounded fantastic.
I loved it! But her vocals seemed.. Tired and breathless? But only at the start of the performance, it seemed to get better and she slayed those high notes halfway through the performance .
WHO JUST THE PERFORMANCE OMG
It's not perfect but pretty good for her first performance
Katy sounded great and the performance was amazing.
Beyond that, I LOVE her look in this performance, so elegant, so classy and amazing! I love Katy's natural look!
Well, it was her first time performing Rise. She didn't sound tired or breathless.
I thought she looked awesomely sexy in her dress, it beats the latex things she used to do!
And I only don't like the fact that all the videos getting posted now skip Katy's short talk at the beginning. It wasn't just 'rambling on about Hillary' as some suggest, it was a very touching personal speech also about herself. You don't have to support Hillary Clinton, only to ignore the speech leading up to the singing is completely missing the point.
And regarding what IronButterfly said, I agree. Although I generally don't pay much attention to US politics considering that I'm in Canada, it was still an amazing speech AND the result of the election would not only affect the US but basically the rest of the world too...
dclyde18 is actually right. She sounded a bit tired and struggled with a few notes. But considering it being the first Rise performance she did good! She's human and is allowed to make little mistakes - it's totally not a bad thing (just to make clear i'm not hating or smth like that).
Therefore she nailed the second "and be transformed" !
I could be incorrect but I think she was having a hard time hearing herself. I don't know 100% what was going on or what she was using last night but the entire time she was struggling to sing she casually had her arm down her back and then she was messing with her ear piece for a few seconds afterwards... Pretty sure she was having technical difficulties and not just casually deciding to itch her back the minute she got on stage.
when I saw the soundcheck videos I thought they sounded off hours before performing... I have a feeling they were having problems in general with that aspect last night. You could hardly hear her over the backing track at first too. The person in charge of doing audio was a mess.
Yeah, she was having difficulties with the ear piece and that's probably why her arm was down her back. Minus the difficulties, she sounded amazing. Her vocals are better then ever.
Apparently there's a physical copy of Rise coming out on August 12th. The same account who said the video was coming on the 28th.
I'm finding it difficult that every time she does something it gets plucked apart afterwards going on and on how tired she was, and how nervous, how the earpiece didn't work, how the sound was messed up, and, and...
I see everything from a different view, for reasons. I can go out on a gig and mess up the lyrics of an old classic which everybody recites in the shower perfectly well because I actually am nervous, plus at the end me concluding for myself that I sounded like a karaoke mess through half of everything anyway, but all I hear about it being discussed later is how everything was fine, better than they expected and perfectly well done. - It's really easier to be a nobody onstage than somebody like Katy Perry whose every fart gets expertly analysed, criticised and suggested in circular discussions what could have been better and why it wasn't.
Katy is nervous because everybody always is, that's the bloody nature of this thing not a particular trait of only hers; also, yes there was a tech problem, so what! - it's got nothing to do with her, and they'll all have laughed it off ten minutes later moving on to the next thing, but her fans need to discuss it days later. How are ppl even capable of talking about which note she sang worse and which one better, judging by an obviously not well done one take event TV sound mix watched through a home device? To judge that about her for sure with a production like that you ideally have to be there directly at the isolated sound with the headphones on. She wasn't any more stressed or tired than anybody else would have been. I get the feeling she gets more analysed and her each performance plucked apart than she herself and her voice coach would do it between them, and not just on this one occasion - always! - Everything was just great, and it's done and over, yesterday, history. End of what I have to get off my chest
