Don't get me wrong but I'm kinda done with IKAG's and International Smiles and TIHWDs... I really just want an album thats fully based on true life and something that's totally relateable. Of course her songs that are fun lyrics are awesome but imo you can have upbeat fun songs with meaningful lyrics at the same time and I'd really love to see Katy's OOTB side come back where she wrote more from experience. I think PRISM showed us a taste of that again with half of the album being from personal experience. You can see her maturing.I understand that and respect your opinion. It's just that sometimes, I want to listen to a fun song. There are some people who don't like being too serious to stuff, and just want to get away and have fun. I feel like this is what most people feel like which is why sometimes the 'meaningless' songs do better at charts than the beautiful poetic one. It is possible to have upbeat fun songs with meaningful lyrics, but imagine how hard it is for the songwriters.
Oh I totally get that and I love a fun song sometimes! It's just I don't want Katy's whole discography to be full of them at this point. I'd much rather her take a realistic approach to things. Believe it or not "meaningless" songs have been on the downfall lately and that's why I think Katy realizes that she needs to reinvent herself. I'm not saying that Katy can't have upbeat fun songs, it's just I'd rather them have more lyrical content. Much like Part of Me, Teenage Dream, Wide Awake, Hot N' Cold, Ghost, It Takes Two, and Unconditionally. It's not that it's really that hard for someone to put meaningful lyrics, it's that Katy has just been loving doing fun party songs, and I get that that's great, but she's in her 30s now and while I realize age is just a number I really want to see personal songs that are more relate able because she's aging and the public is changing. Not songs like WUIV, Cali Girls, TIHWD, and TGIF. (Even though I absolutely adore WUIV.) I will admit I love innuendo songs too and I'll be sad to see them go if she doesn't put one on her next album, but at the same time I guess I wouldn't mind it? I'm really loving where Katy is thinking she's going after PRISM because she has so much potential to make more relate able music and I feel like almost always the meaningful songs are Katycat and casual fan favorites. Like don't get me wrong I love all of Katy's music, but I don't want another first part of prism, I want the second half. I honestly think to start competing with Taylor she literally HAS to start making personal lyrics because 1989 is literally perfect pop. Great upbeat 80s music combined with relate able lyrics and the general public is starting to shift towards more meaningful songs on a large spectrum of genres with female artists. She needs to progress and like I said Katy realizes this.
